The Jetport Proposal

The vast rural area that is the center of St. Tammany Parish has seen its share of development proposals over the years. There were the industrial park, the business park, and even the park park, that being "Hemisphere Land," an amusement park that had high hopes. It never materialized, however.

Back in 1974, the area of St. Tammany between Abita Springs and Pearl River was being eyed as the location of a new super airport, a "jetport" that would serve both New Orleans and Baton Rouge. The jetport idea had both its advocates and foes, and lots of newspaper ink was spilled in reporting the debates over the idea... such as these articles in the Northlake Sunday News.
