International Legends Perform at FHS Jazz Concert - 2014

The Jazz Ensemble One student band at Fontainebleau High School has presented numerous outstanding jazz concerts, but on Thursday, January 23, 2014, Fontainebleau hosted an “historic” battle of big bands being billed as “The Kremlin Meets the Crescent City.”

Two internationally-acclaimed groups took part, legendary pianist/educator “Ellis Marsalis and the Uptown Jazz Orchestra” from New Orleans and the Igor Butman Jazz Orchestra (IBJO) from Moscow, Russia.

The concert was held in the Fontainebleau High School auditorium in Mandeville with hundreds of students, parents and School System officials in the audience.

As the birthplace of jazz, New Orleans has influenced musicians around the world for over a century. This one-of-a-kind show highlighted the great jazz legacy as interpreted by two entirely different cultures with the same objective, Band Director Lee Hicks said, and it was an opportunity that Fontainebleau High School was proud to present.
