Tammany Trace As It Was 100 Years Ago

The Tammany Trace, as popular as it is today, was just as popular 100 years ago.

Going from Mandeville to Covington through Abita Springs by trolley car along the railroad track was the way to go back around the turn of the century, the 20th century that is.

Thousands of people rode the trolley car from Mandeville to Covington each summer, as evidenced by the postcard below. Click on the image to see a larger version.

Here is a picture of a trolley car making the run from Mandeville to Abita Springs.

When it reached Mandeville, the train track ran right onto a pier off the lakefront so passengers getting off a Lake Pontchartrain steamer could jump right on board the train without even going to land first.
