Waldheim Gardens

Throughout St. Tammany Parish are located a number of "family compounds," that is a group of houses that are clustered together in wooded surroundings, with the occupants all related one way or another. St. Tammany was the ideal "weekend getaway" for hard-working New Orleans folks, with some of those weekends stretching across an entire summer. 

One such family compound was "Waldheim Gardens," a beautiful place set up by the Jahncke family for picnics, walks in the woods, swimming, boat rides, and even a tennis game or two. Here are some photos of Waldheim Gardens from many years ago, showing some of its amazing landscapes.
