All up and down the winding Bogue Falaya River near Covington, there are beaches and sand bars in many of the tight turns. In the past many were private swimming areas, but there were a few public beaches as well. As the years went by, the river became polluted and it was not a good idea to swim in the river any longer. Fishing, kayaking and canoeing are still a top recreational activity, though.
