Lyn Hill Hayward Taylor

Covington area artist Lyn Hill Taylor wrote a weekly newspaper column for the Covington Daily News in 1972. It was called The Art Colony. She wrote about her visits and interviews with a number of area artists and sculptors, talking to them about their work and also how they enjoyed living in the area.

I would sometimes take pictures during these interviews, and I wish I still had those pictures and copies of those columns. It represented a great cross section of Covington's best known artists as well as up and coming artists.

At the time, she was giving seminars on art history and teaching art lessons to children as well as adults, so I wrote an article about her artistic endeavors. The Covington Daily News articles gave her an opportunity to share her thoughts about public perception and appreciation of art.

At one time, her art studio was next door to the writing studio of famed novelist Walker Percy, at the back of the St. Tammany Art Association building on New Hampshire St. in Covington.
