Krewe Of Cee Bee Bee Presents 11th Annual Carnival Ball At CHS
The Krewe of Cee Bee Bee (Covington Band Boosters) presented its 11th annual Carnival ball at the Covington high school gym Thursday evening. As the house lights darkened, the glowing shadows of nighttime deep in a forest transformed the auditorium into "a "Fantasy Land", this year's theme of the ball.
Bobby Bradley and Hank Johnson, masters of ceremonies, welcomed guests and introduced the court musicians, Mrs. L. L. Landon, Chris Litsey and Don Achee.
Miss Diane Morgan, queen in 1966, and Miss Peggy Spencer, queen of 1967, were introduced and escorted to their places of honor.
With the first roll of the drums, the lights dimmed, and the spotlight fell upon the captain of the krewe, Relmon Cotten, who made his entrance dressed in white tie and tails.
After extending a welcome to all present, the captain signaled for the entrance of his royal highness, King Norman Marsolan, son of Mr. and Mrs. Norman Marsolan Sr. Dressed in white tie and tails wearing a silver crown bedecked with jewels, he acknowledged cheers of his subjects with a wave of his golden septer.
His deep red velvet court mantle was accented with a wide -border of gold sequins and elaborate center design in rhine-stones and gold and silver sequins. .
Pages to his majesty were Leslie and Lori Salter, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Salter. They wore white satin doublets and matching capelets trimmed in gold sequins and white satin page hats.
As the king took his place upon a large mushroom throne, the guests awaited introduction of the court.
The band maids and dukes. dressed in elegant formal ball gowns and tuxedoes, were presented to his majesty and guests first. Miss Kathy Grogan, in a lovely sea foam green gown and carrying a bouquet of white and red camellias, was presented to her duke, Bruce Welch. They represented the freshmen of the band department.
Sophomore maid Miss Victoria Landon, gowned in a garnet and pink gown and carrying a pink and white camellia bouquet was escorted from the "forest" to her duke, Steve Wilson.
Representing the junior class were Miss Cheryl Hodson, in a petal pink gown carrying a white camellia bouquet and her duke, Russell Goodrow. Miss Jean Riopelle, elegantly gowned in white chiffon and carrying an arm bouquet of red and white peppermint camellias, was escorted by the captain to her duke, Dale Fulton. They represented the seniors of the band.
Last of the honor attendants presented were the maid and duke of honor, Miss Ann Gotschall and Lee Sloan. Miss Gotschall was gowned in a white peau de soie formal and carried a bouquet of deep red camellias. Each of the maids wore glittering rhinestone tiaras and white gloves.
The captain then introduced the remainder of the court. Each of the clubs' dukes and maids were dressed as their favorite characters from "Fantasy land". They were Georganne Vice and Kenneth Latham of the Annual staff as "Little Miss Muffet and the Spider"; Cheryl Sweeney and Gary Achee of the Art Club as "Little Bo Peep and Little Boy Blue"; Brenda Fitzmorris and Terry Keating of the Cheerleaders as "Raggedy Ann and Andy"; Charlotte Raiford and Lee Lott of C.O.E. as "Rapunezel and the Climber".
Lynda Holt and Philip Lee of D.E.C.A. as "Cinderella and her Prince"; Cheryl Drinkard and Ted Talley of F.B.L.A. as "Paper Ballerina and the Tin Soldier"; Debbie Martens and Phillip Lynch of F.F.A. as "Mary, Mary, Quite Contrary and the Jolly Green Giant"; June Montgomery and Carlos Miller of YHA as "Jack and Jill"; Linda Taylor and Doug Wilkerson of 4-H as "Popeye and Olive Oyl"; Francis Baham and David Hendry of the French club as "Robin Hood and Maid Marion." Sherrie Hill and Johnny Mendow of the Honor Guard as "Dorothy and Scarecrow".
Penny Parker and Robert Bridges of Industrial Arts as "What Little. Girls and Little Boys are Made Of" Carol Hunstock and Steve Akerson of the Key Club as "Pinocchio and the Blue Fairy," Ellen Chassee and Chris Mattox of the Latin Club as "King Midas and Daughter"; Suzanne Windom and Larry Jarrell of the Library Club as Little Red Riding Hood and the Wolf"; Sharon Core and Tommy Rodwig of the Lionettes as "Fred and Wilma Flintstone".
Susan Pfeffer and Donald White of the Majorettes as "Hansel and Gretal"; Becky Salter and Mark Alberty of the Math Club as "Alice in Wonderland and the Mad Hatter"; Aldean Sharp and David Dwight of Mu Sigma as "Peter Pan and Wendy"; Linda Broocks and Mike Davis of the Paper Staff as "Sleeping Beauty and the Prince"; Connie McBride and Carroll Wascom of the Science Club as "Tom Sawyer and Becky"; Connie Jenkins and Tommy Davis of the Spanish Club as "Don Quixote and Dulcinea"; Elizabeth Pfeifer and Robby Cox of the Speech Club as "The Frog and The Princess"
Judy Gottschalck and Danny Kertacy of the Student Council as "Rumplestilskin and Queen"; and Jennifer McWilliams and Jeff Salter of Thespians as "The Gingham Dog and the Calico Cat".
With the sounding of the captain's whistle, the much anticipated moment arrived and the 1968 Queen of Cee Bee Bee, Miss Allison White, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Malcolm White, appeared from the forest "Fantasy Land" and was escorted about the ballroom on the arm of the krewe captain.
As she greeted her loyal subjects and guests, she was greeted by a standing ovation. Her beauty was enhanced by her exquisite coronation gown of white peau de soie featuring a fitted bodice accented with rhinestone shoulder straps and a design of rhinestones down the side front panels.
Her powder blue velvet train, lavishly sparkled with silver, blue and gold sequins was centered with a crown outlined in silver and gold sequins and a crescent of silver sequins and rhinestones. An Elizabethian collar of white satin edged with silver sequins and brilliants framed her majesty's face. She wore a tiara completely outlined in rhinestones and brilliants and carried a light gold scepter, identical to that of the king's.
Train bearers to the queen were her cousins, Patrick King, son of Mr. and Mrs. William King and Joy Noel White, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John M. White. They wore identical white satin page outfits to those worn by the king's pages.
After her majesty had taken her place upon the throne, Mrs. Pierre Barrios sang "Over the Rainbow" and Misses Angel Knight, Mary Lee and Sonja Yarborough gave an interpretive dance to Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band.
At the conclusion of the royal entertainment, their majesties mother Mrs. Norman Marsolan and Mrs. Malcolm White were presented at court and were given bouquets of petal pink carnations.
In appreciation of her interest and help in band activities, Mrs. Louis Wagner was presented a bouquet of peppermint red carnations by the captain of the krewe.
After all honors had been bestowed by their majesties, they were served the traditional toast from silver goblets by the court butler, Steve McCoy.
In keeping with a custom established at last years ball, costumed maids and dukes were judged for the three best costumes. Winners were Suzanne Windom and Larry Jarrell as "Little Red Riding Hood and the Wolf", first place; Debbie Martens and Phillip Lynch as "Mary Mary, Quite Contrary and the Jolly Green Giant", second place; and Jennifer McWilliams and Jeff Salter as "The Gingham Dog and the Calico Cat", third place. Judges for the event were Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Blackwell and Mrs. David Milhan.
