Over on the Facebook page "I Lived In Mandeville When..." Linda Honeycutt gave this brief history of the school:
The “old” Mandeville school opened in 1918, and it contained grades 1-10, with 134 students. In 1920, the senior high was added and there were 13 seniors in the first graduating class.
The “Old Gym” on Livingston Street is the only remaining structure from this original school. In 1957, the “new” Mandeville High School was opened, serving grades 1-12. From 1965 - 1971, MHS reduced its student body to grades 8-12, due to the opening of an elementary and middle school.
In 1979, this school joined the past as we moved to a new school. Grades housed at the current school site narrowed to 9-12, as the old high school was converted into a junior high school. In 2002, The U.S. Department of Education’s Blue Ribbon Schools Program recognized Mandeville High School as a National School of Excellence.
