In the early 1980's solar power was just gaining recognition, and a company promoting solar cells decided to hold an information fair about photovoltaics, where else but in the Village of Sun. They brought in several exhibits and educational displays and set them up in the yard of the old school / senior citizens building.
I had a radio program on WARB at the time, so I went to the event and tape recorded an interview with the organizers about solar power, what it meant and what it would be capable of in the future. To illustrate that point, before the interview I took the batteries out of my audio cassette recorder and the guy hooked up a solar panel to the interior contacts of the tape recorder.
So, during the interview, I could tell the audience that the interview they were hearing was being recorded using the power of the sun. Now, some 36 years later, solar power is being used by more and more households as PV panels are installed on homes both new and old.
