Strike Up The Band

Bands were popular in the early 20th century, almost as popular as they are now in the early 21st century. Here are a few photographs of the musicians across the years, some school related, some fire department related, and some just family bands, apparently.

Bands from New Orleans would ride over on the excursion steamboats, entertaining passengers on the way over, then play at various music venues throughout the northshore on the weekend. See band members with instruments at left above leading a group of newly-arrived excursion passengers down a pier in Mandeville 1910's.
