In the late 1950's and early 1960's, scuba diving became a new and exciting sport. A large number of Covington area residents jumped into it, taking classes, joining the local scuba diving club, and going on spearfishing trips to the Gulf Coast. The City of Covington even had scuba diving lessons taught at the city pool.

The annual "Trim the Trailhead" Christmas tree extravaganza at the Covington Trailhead got off to a rainy start this year (2025). Thirty Christmas trees were placed along the sidewalk there and are being decorated with unique ornaments following local themes. Each one is sponsored by a local organization or business, with the ultimate goal of raising funds for the Northshore Food Bank.
