Dueling Under the Oaks With Pistols

In the 1970's Polly Morris of Lacombe wrote a number of fascinating articles about the history of St. Tammany Parish and the legends and traditions of the area. I always enjoyed reading her articles, and here is one about the practice of "dueling under the oaks" at Mandeville lakefront. We're talking about the traditions required of men defending their honor by grabbing a pistol, taking ten steps, turning and firing.
