On December 2, 1932, an obituary appeared in the Bogalusa Enterprise and American
newspaper telling about the death of a
Sun community resident who was said to be 129 years of age.
According to the newspaper, Adele Nichols was born in 1803, and she died on Wednesday, November 30, 1932, making her 129 years of age at her death. "Death was caused by a fractured hip," the article stated, "the result of a fall some time ago."
The article stated that Nichols was born in Plaquemine, La, in 1803 (the year the Louisiana
Purchase was signed), and she resided in the Village of Sun for many years. She
apparently saved enough money in the First State Bank and Trust Co. in Bogalusa
for a "rainy day," the article went on to say, "to more than
cover the funeral expenses."
She was buried the next day in a Sun area cemetery.
