Madisonville Cemetery Candles Lit, Graves Blessed

The Friends of the Madisonville Cemetery lit up a number of graves in the cemetery with candles the evening of All Saints Day, with Father Travis of St. Anselm Church blessing the graves, both overall and for individual families.

More than 1,000 candles and luminaries were placed throughout the historic cemetery on Thursday, November 1, 2018. Mayor Jean Pelloat welcomed those present, and it was announced that a donation had been made to the Friends of the Madisonville Cemetery in the amount of $3000 to help fund the completion of the "ground penetrating radar" work which will help identify unmarked graves in the cemetery.  Completing the mapping of the unmarked graves is of utmost importance, cemetery supporters feel, since the old cemetery contains many graves of important pioneers in the area, as well as key figures in area history.
