In the 1970's the Archaeological Society was quite active in St. Tammany Parish. A number of ancient artifacts were turning up across the landscape.
There's a theory that when the Mayan culture left Central America they went north to Texas, turned right, passed through Louisiana and re-settled in north Georgia. It's just a theory but they are finding old ruins and other indications of Mayan culture up that way.
