In 1943 there were 22,848 people living in St. Tammany Parish, and there were a total of 2771 students enrolled in public schools, 2074 in grades one through seven and 697 in secondary grades.

The report detailed the student transportation program. Thirty one school buses were in operation, carrying 1845 students to and from school each day.
