Being "zoomable" means you can get closer and closer to the area you are most interested in. The zooming in process does take a while to zoom in so you have to be patient. The system is processing a lot of information and it gets more and more detailed the closer you get.
To see the map, CLICK HERE. You have to agree to its terms of use first, so you may land on a disclaimer screen that asks you to do that. You click on the "I Agree" statement at the bottom right of the dialog box, and then you go to the map.
The St. Tammany Parish Department of Technology was ranked in the top two counties in the nation by the National Association of Counties (NACo) Annual Digital Survey Awards, in counties with populations of 150,000-249,999.
The 2015 honor marked the fifth consecutive year that St. Tammany Parish had been designated as one of the most innovative and pioneering users of digital technology in the country.
DisasterMap.net
DisasterMap.net was created and maintained by a computer programmer who was a resident of St. Tammany Parish. It brought together several databases which were constantly updated and displayed on a national map which could be zoomed in to see what was happening at a local level. It was created and maintained by the late Ezra Boyd, PhD, who died in early July, 2017. As a result, the website is no longer active.
It was a great showcase of how useful geographic information systems can be to
private industry, local governments, and even first responders to
various emergencies.
