New Abita Springs Hotel Opens

A new hotel opened in Abita Springs Sunday afternoon, not quite as large as the hotels from 100 years ago, but certainly with much nicer accommodations.

The Abita Springs Hotel, located on Ann O'Brien Lane, overlooks the center of town, with Tammany Trace right across the street. It was formerly a private residence, built in 1927. While courthouse documentation has not yet been found, it is believed to have been the home of the first mayor of Abita Springs at one time.

The two story home was purchased in 2010 by John Preble and has been extensively renovated and updated by his son Will Preble. The first thing accomplished was raising the second story by three or so feet in order to provide more headroom on the first floor. The hotel offers four rooms upstairs, each with its own bath, and a small apartment downstairs.

It will open this week and already has some reservations on the books. A special grand opening reception was held Sunday afternoon and dozens of people turned out for the occasion. Here are some photographs from the event.
