Northshore Garden and Plant Sale

The St. Tammany Master Gardener Association and the LSU AgCenter held the annual "Northshore Garden & Plant Sale" Friday and Saturday, March 16 and 17, at the parish fairgrounds in Covington. The gate admission helped raise money for the Bobby Fletcher Sr. College Scholarship Fund and the St. Tammany Master Gardener College Scholarship Fund.

Some 45 exhibitors lined the aisles of the Bobby Fletcher Sr. Agriculture Showbarn, representing a variety of nurseries, lawn ornament artists and craftsmen, and educational outreaches. Talks were presented on a number of topics, including beekeeping, gluten-free baking, butterflies, and different kinds of gardening techniques.

Here are some photographs. Click on the images to make them larger.

It's a big place.

A large number of young folks and students turned out for the event.

Some folks were dressed up in butterfly costumes.

The plant experts at Northshore High School had an exhibit and sales booth to display the product of their efforts in their greenhouse and acre of garden.

It wasn't all plants. There were garden ornaments and artwork as well.

Leroy Aucoin had his PVC Pipe bird creations on display.

A number of educational presentations were offered in the Rusty Batty speakers tent. Topics ranged from dealing with termites to growing citrus and from caring for azaleas to home vegetable gardening.

Beekeeping was a hot topic, as was the proper care and maintenance of garden tools.
