According to the Citadel Builder's website, the $13.3 million building provides a variety of features aimed at recruiting, training and deploying National Guard troops with the 1021st Engineer Company and Detachment 1 of the 843rd Engineer Company, based at the armory in Covington.
"The 30,000-square-foot center was built on 3.4 acres and is one of about 15 projects in Louisiana that were funded after Hurricane Katrina to increase the ability of the National Guard to respond to disasters. The center, which includes classrooms, a fitness room, kitchen, and family support center, can also be used as a staging area in case of disasters," the builder stated.
HMS Architects did the design work, and the building earned a "LEED Silver" energy efficiency designation.
