Jet Drive In Movie Theater

Covington/Mandeville's drive-in theater was the Jet Drive In, located on the east side of U. S. 190 near where Interstate 12 cuts across the landscape. It was originally called the Park Drive In. A modular home dealership occupies the location today. The Jet had an adjacent bowling alley as well. Here's an aerial photograph of the drive in theater in the early 1970's.

It was also called the Park Drive In at some time.

Many residents remember the popcorn and the Pic mosquito coils, and some even remember giving a hand in running the projector. It was quite a skill to hang the big metal speaker on the rolled up window glass (and remember not to drive off with it still hanging there.) And if the movie was too slow for the little kids, there was always the playground with swing sets in the area directly in front of the screen.
