Races On The Tchefuncte
One of the first sports articles I wrote for the local newspaper was an account of the hydroplane speedboat races in the Tchefuncte River in Madisonville. There was a lot of engine noise, water spray shooting into the air, and hairpin turns in a not so wide river.
In later years, the speedboat races stopped and pirogue races took their place. Somewhat quieter, slower, and with more audience participation. Here are a few pictures of one of the pirogue races on the riverfront in Madisonville.
