In 1973 something odd happened in the United States. We came close to running out of gasoline to fuel the cars. Here is the story in the Mandeville Banner newspaper that appeared on November 28, 1973.
There were gas stations running out of gas and closing, long lines to fill up your car, and most interesting, depending on whether your car's license plate ended in an even or odd number, you could only get gas on certain days.
