Early Environmentalist Edith Eckart

Edith Eckart was one of those early environmentalists before most people even knew what that meant. She helped pave the way for the environmental movement in St. Tammany, and she was agreeable to writing a monthly column in a magazine I was publishing in 1973.

Here is one of her columns that details the state of the environmental concerns in St. Tammany at that time, particularly the health of Lake Pontchartrain. Click on the image to make it larger and more readable.

Edith was a great resource, always bringing up subjects that most of us didn't even think about at that time. Here is a column I wrote about her and one of her most pressing concerns.
