Celebrating Covington's 175th
Back on October 6, 1988, the Times Picayune newspaper helped the City of Covington celebrate its 175th Anniversary by publishing a special section filled with photographs and interviews with some of the town's most revered citizens. Here is a link to that special section as a PDF file. It featured articles about Louis D. Ross Sr., the banker; Frederick S. Ellis, the judge and historian; and a variety of volunteers giving cemetery tours, Indian artifact exhibits, and photographic displays. Although the city recently celebrated its 200th anniversary (back in 2013), it's interesting to look back and recognize those who carried the torch for history and community 28 years ago.
