4-H Clubs Hold Rally Day in 1931

On March 7,1931, hundreds of 4-H Club members throughout St. Tammany Parish converged for their annual Big Family Reunion/Rally Day at Elmer E. Lyon High School in Covington, LA. Part of the program was held at the Majestic Theater, with a welcoming address by Victor Blackwell. A roll call of clubs was then held, followed by the awarding of prizes, distribution of caps, and a report on national 4-H Club activities.

The first 4-H Club in St. Tammany Parish was the Madisonville Club in 1922 with a total of 17 members, and by 1930, there were 20 clubs scattered across the parish with more than 400 members. The program lists scores of names of members who were in attendance at the big event.
