The St. Francis Animal Sanctuary is a non-profit corporation that rescues and looks after dogs and cats while they await adoption. In Mandeville, the group runs a large thrift store, and it is a great place to hang out, find and buy stuff you didn't know you needed, and curl up with a cat in their cat petting and adoption room. It is located at 813 Florida St. (Hwy 190) in the Pelican Plaza Shopping Center (half way to Pelican Park from Mandeville.)
The proceeds from the thrift store help operate the large animal sanctuary run by the organization near Tylertown, Ms. The sanctuary was hit by a tornado a few years ago and that damaged a lot of the buildings up there. So it was touch and go for a while.
There is a furniture consignment store, S & S Consignment, next to the thrift shop in Mandeville, and it also raises funds for the animal sanctuary.
The group is currently running short on funds to buy all the dog food and cat food it needs, so a call has been sent out to the community to please donate towards the effort to feed these animals in transition. The group's website is www.sfas.org.
