When The Causeway Was First Opened

Were people ready to drive across the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway to St. Tammany Parish when the world's longest bridge was first opened in 1956? Judge for yourself by looking at the photo below. Notice in the background the absence of the Lakeside Shopping Center and just about everything else that now occupies the space along Causeway Blvd. between the lake and Interstate 10.
